There are lots of road biking options in Aspen. “Most Popular” doesn’t always mean best, but it does mean these are the trails people are biking a lot. Here are 5 of the most popular road biking options in Aspen:
1. Castle Creek Road (CR 15)

View toward Ashcroft on the Castle Creek Road
Castle Creek Road is an amazing stretch through the Castle Creek Valley to the Ashcroft Ghost Town. The road provides a fairly constant climb, though never really too steep, with lots of aspens along the way.
2. Maroon Creek Road (CR 13)

Fall leaves along Maroon Creek Road
Maroon Creek Road is a beautiful stretch through the Maroon Creek Valley to the Maroon Bells Scenic Area.
3. Independence Pass (HWY 82)

A very narrow section along Independence Pass Road
The road to Independence Pass is extremely difficult. The road is narrow, offering little or no shoulder at times, there are many cars traveling over the pass in the summer, and it is a constant tough climb. It’s also completely gorgeous.
4. Rio Grande Trail

The Rio Grande Trail from Aspen to Glenwood
The Rio Grande Trail is a wide multi-use trail that travels all the way to Glenwood.
5. McLain Flats Road

View of Mt. Daly from McLain Flats Road
McLain Flats Road is a gentle rolling road with a steep up and downhill on either end. This is a great connection with the Rio Grande Trail or Cemetery Lane Trail.
