Mysteriously around Aspen swings are popping up on trails. Yes, someone is making and hanging up swings for others to enjoy. Some of these swings are hidden from the path, and others hang right along the trail. These simple pieces of red painted wood can be found hanging from trees attached by climbing rope with the hashtag #AspenSwingProject engraved on the seat.
In fact of the 5 Ws to a story – what, who, when, where, why – we actually only know the what – red rope swings engraved with #AspenSwingProject. It’s so simple, and that might be what’s most beautiful about this project.
A swing’s purpose and symbol is fun. It’s hard to pass by a swing, fold your arms, and think “that’s not going to be any fun.” Who knows where, if at all, the next swing will pop up, and there’s no guarantee that the picture of a swing you see will be there next time. It’s simply a random act of kindness.
If you are fortunate enough to find one of these swings, it’s hard to hide the smile that spreads across your face, and for a moment the fun of being a kid again returns. Like the changing of the leaves, some things you just have to enjoy in that beautiful moment.
