Bulldog Creek Trail is an intermediate/moderate trail you can hike and horseback ride that is dog friendly. This is an unmarked 2 mile dirt trail near Carbondale, CO.
The beginning of the trail starts 1.5 miles past the first gate and info signs on Avalanche Creek Road (FSR #310). Just before the spillway, you’ll find the unmarked trailhead on your left. The trail follows along the creek, the first mile on the left side of the creek, the second mile on the right side of the creek.

1st mile is very easy and easy to follow. I went about 150-200 yards beyond the 2nd mining cabin to find what seemed to be the easiest way down to the creek bed. Once on the creek bed I back tracked 100-200ft to cross and aquire the trail. Creek is about a 3.5ft hop (mid July). The second mile is basically abandoned trail and pretty slow going. Past the old cabin you need to cross Bulldog Creek. The trail becomes much less clear at this point and it’s basically bushwacking! Continue along the ridge with Bulldog Creek on your left. About a mile later, there’s the old mining tunnel and waterfall! It’s difficult to get to, but AMAZING.
