The Lorax Trail is an intermediate/moderate trail you can hike, run, and mountain bike that is dog friendly. The lasso shaped trail is 1 mile to the loop and the loop is 1 mile. This trail is closed to bikes on Lorax area BLM routes Dec. 1 – April 15. This is a 3 mile round trip dirt trail in Carbondale, CO.
To get to the Lorax Trail from Carbondale, travel 3.2 miles up Thompson Creek Road (CR 108) from the Colorado Rocky Mountain School and bridge crossing the Crystal River. Turn left on the dirt road and the trail is just after the bend on the right.
This is a fun hike for those looking to get some exercise without having to stop every 100 yards to catch your breath. It starts with a little elevation at which point you hike through a flat clearing with views of Sopris. From there is about a 15 minute section where there are a lot of little ravines you dip into and then hike up. There’s a somewhat steep hill down from there and then you reach the loop.
