Talbott Trail

The Talbott Trail is named after the enterprising Talbott family who were originally from Palisade, CO, where they were fourth generation fruit growers.

In 1959 Ross, Ramona and baby daughter Rita moved to New Castle when the Talbott family bought the Roderick Ranch from Joe Shanks. The Roderick family had established the ranch in the early 1900’s. From 1959 through the 1970’s, the Talbots worked the orchard and land, and in one year harvested over 30,000 bushels of apples and 350 tons of hay. In the late 1960’s they began the development of Apple Tree Community and Mountain Shadows Subdivision.

In 1976 the Talbotts helped to establish Apple Tree Community Church (now New Hope Church) and started the annual 4th of July Freedom Celebration, complete with fireworks. In 1980 the Apple Tree Mall was opened with a grocery store, cafe, laundromat, other stores and business offices. In 1997 the Talbotts’ daughter Renee and her husband David Miller founded Liberty Classical Academy, formerly the Garden School, a classical Christian school for pre-K through 12th grade students. In 2000 the Talbotts opened Mr. T’s Hardware store.

Ross and Ramona raised six children: Rita, Ross Mark, Russell, Renee, Raelynn and Timothy Ray. The Talbott family has a long history of promoting the greater New Castle community & working to make our corner of the world a better place to live and raise a family.”
